Russia: After struggling with an attacker over her handbag 22-year-old office worker Julia Popova has walked home unaware that she was bleeding and had a knife buried deep in her neck.
When she arrived home her parents did notice the knife and sought urgent medical aid. Doctors were able to surgically remove the kitchen knife without incident despite it being perilously close to her spinal cord.
"Shock had kicked in and her body prevented her from feeling any pain. She simply walked home without feeling the knife in her back," said a member of the medical staff.

13-year-old Zara Hartshorn is one of about 2,000 people worldwide that suffer from a genetic disorder known as lipodystrophy, which affects fatty tissue which supports the skin making her look 50. The result has dealt a heavy blow to her social life.
She said, “[They] call me Grandma.” Although the hereditary condition also affects two siblings and her mom, Zara has it the worst. Mother Tracey said the characteristic wrinkles around the chin, hollow face, and loose skin were apparent immediately.
“I’d never seen a case so severe on a baby so young — my heart sank. I felt so guilty, because when she was a baby I knew the pain she would go through later in life, and I knew I had passed the disorder on,” said Tracey.

The U.S. employment outlook became a little less bleak after the January jobs report showed an unanticipated decline in unemployment, as the unemployment rate fell to 9.7 percent from 10 percent, with more people reporting that they have jobs.
The job crisis remains deep, as the government now projects that 8.4 million jobs were lost during the "Great Recession" and might only rebound by about 1.5 million this year. Economists expect higher-than-normal unemployment for years.
The unemployment rate was expected to rise to 10.1 percent for January, and a separate survey found that employers shed 20,000 jobs. However, if the embattled construction industry is excluded, the private sector added 63,000 jobs last month.

2008 Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo said Thursday night: "people who could not even spell the word ´vote´, or say it in English, put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House. His name is Barack Hussein Obama."
The organizer of the event at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville, Judson Phillips, says Tancredo gave a fantastic speech. He then said that a socialist has many negative connotations, but has a specific political meaning.
"I think it is very clear that that is the political ideology of Barack Obama," Phillips said. "Tancredo doesn´t feel like a lot of people who supported Barack Obama understand the basics of this country."
